The turtle makes every effort to camouflage her nest, throwing sand over it once she has patted it down. Because Olive Ridleys are quite small turtles they have bounce their shells up and down on the sand to pad the sand down with enough force to bury the eggs satisfactorily, creating a "thump thump" sound as they do so.
